George W. Hansen is an american of Danish origin worked in the world of interior decoration before embarking on he island of Labrador during the Second World War. It was at this time that he designed the lamp that would later become the famous Swing-arm, which was first manufactured in the United States. In 1966, it was destiny's wish that Antonio Riera would meet George Hansen on a trip to New York. He proposed manufacturing his lamp at metalarte, which he agreed to after visiting Barcelona and being surprised by the quality of Catalan manufacturing. His only condition was that it was to be produced exclusively for the American market. Riera began to send them by air at the rate of 500 units a month. After a couple of years, metalarte obtained a license to market it on a global scale. Today, it is one of the most successful products in its catalogue.
